Summer 2026
UPDATE

June 25, 2026

One step forward, three steps back.

As promised, we want to continue being open and transparent with our supporters. Earlier this year, we announced plans to operate on limited hours through July closing at the end of that month to begin preparing our property for future development. Circumstances have changed.

Over a year ago, we entered into an agreement to purchase additional land beside the museum so that we could build a larger facility while preserving our historic buildings. The process has involved rezoning, subdivision approvals, and surveying. Although significant progress has been made, we no longer expect to have access to the property in time to begin work this summer. Consequently, closing early no longer makes sense.

We have also heard from you and other visitors from across Canada and the world who planned to visit the museum this summer, upset that they would not get to. Our volunteers, board members, and gift shop consignors all share the desire to continue welcoming guests for as long as we reasonably can.

If you've visited these past few years, you know our building presents many challenges. The structure is old and, despite air conditioning and fans, the space is extremely hot and humid during the summer months. While safe for visitors, extended time spent inside is difficult for volunteers.

For these reasons, we will continue operating, but with reduced hours:

July and August Hours

Monday to Wednesday - CLOSED

Thursday to Sunday - OPEN 11:00 am - 4:30 pm

Holiday Hours

Canada Day (July 1) - 11:00 am - 4:30 pm

Heritage Day (August 3) - 11:00 am - 4:30 pm

Labour Day Weekend (September 5, 6 and 7) - 11:00 am - 4:30 pm

Operating on a reduced schedule allows us to:

  • Continue welcoming visitors

  • Support local gift shop consignors

  • Generate revenue for a future museum home

  • Reduce strain on staff, volunteers and the building

The long-term goal has not changed. Please continue to spread the word about our situation and fundraising efforts.

Thank you for your continued support of our small community museum!

Admission

Admission to the museum is by donation.

The suggested donation amount is $5-$10 per person, but this is up to you. We will never let finances get in your way of the joy of seeing dead gophers!

While we are a public museum run by a registered society, we do not get government funding and rely entirely on the kindness of our guests.

Your donation is what makes this museum possible. Thank you for your support!

Payment Methods

We can accept Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and debit.

Cash is always welcome and e-transfers can be sent to go4museum@gmail.com.

Gift Shop

Our gift shop has a variety of unique items for sale!

Many items are handcrafted, created by members of the community.

We do not have an online shop at this time.

Our Team

Our team is entirely made up of volunteers. We do our best to respond to inquiries quickly, and accommodate as many visitors and tour groups as possible.

Please be kind and respectful to museum staff.

Hibernation/Off Season

Being a volunteer run organization, we need some time to relax after the busy summer season!

We are closed to the general public from mid-October to mid-May each year.

However, if you are planning to visit during the off season, we do our best to make accommodations!

For all off season opening inquiries, please email go4museum@gmail.com

Unlocking Fee

If you are visiting outside of our regular hours of operation, we charge an unlocking fee of $20/group to open the museum.   In addition, off-season visitors are asked to pay a minimum $5/person admission.

These amounts are paid in advance once we confirm your volunteer. We have had many no shows where volunteers have juggled their schedules for people that never show. It is our hope that prepayment deters forgetfulness.

This fee has been put in place to ensure that volunteer time is not wasted, and to cover off season operating expenses.

Thank you for understanding.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

We are currently redesigning our website. We appreciate your patience while we get organized.
